Commissioned by Opera North Projects for Leeds Canvas as part of the 2012 Cultural Olympiad, the films present 2 key scenes from the Victorian children’s story: ‘I must be clean, I must be clean’ and ‘Down to the sea!’ A waterborne camera traces the beginning of Tom’s journey down the River Skirfare, accompanied by a reading of the respective passages as an unsynchronised soundtrack. The work was first shown in the windows of the former Benetton shop at The Light, Leeds during the Quay Brothers’
